Connectivity for Equipment, Not Office Broadband
Plenty of sites that need a data connection will never get a cost-effective fixed line. Car parks, farms, substations, construction compounds, remote signage, pumping stations — trenching in fibre can cost tens of thousands of pounds and take months, all to serve a handful of cameras or sensors. Security & Electrical Group Ltd solves this with industrial-grade 4G and 5G SIM routers, supplied, installed and managed as a complete monthly service, giving your equipment a fast, secure data connection within days rather than months.
We should be clear about what this service is and isn't. Mobile data for industrial routers is priced for machine data — camera events, sensor readings, ANPR results, door entry calls — not for streaming video and general web browsing. If you need day-to-day office internet, a fixed line remains the right tool and we'll tell you so. But for connecting equipment, the economics are compelling: modern edge-processing systems transmit remarkably little data, and a properly specified 4G/5G connection will run CCTV, ANPR, access control and whole sensor networks reliably for a modest monthly cost.
Because SEG designs and installs the security and electrical systems on the other end of that connection — CCTV, access control, alarms and monitoring — you get one contractor responsible for the whole chain: the equipment, the connection, and the ongoing support. No finger-pointing between an installer and a connectivity provider when something needs attention.
How Remote Site Connectivity Works
Four components, installed and managed as one service — from the mobile network to your equipment.
Industrial 4G/5G Router
A ruggedised, industrial-grade SIM router — not a domestic hub — built for 24/7 unattended operation, with dual-SIM failover and remote management, mounted in a cabinet or enclosure at your site.
Antenna & Managed SIM
An external antenna positioned for the strongest signal, with a SIM and data plan that we own and manage. We choose the mobile network with the best coverage at your specific location.
Switch & Your Equipment
The router feeds a network switch that connects your equipment — cameras, ANPR, sensors, door entry, plant controllers — with PoE power where needed and cabling run by our own engineers.
Data & Analytics
Your equipment's data flows securely to wherever it's needed — a cloud platform, a monitoring centre, or your own systems — with options for private APN and VPN connections for sensitive applications.
What We Connect
Remote connectivity underpins a family of SEG services. Start with the one that matches your project — each page covers the equipment, the connection and the ongoing service in detail.
One Monthly Managed Service
No hardware to buy outright, no SIM contracts to juggle, no mobile network to argue with. Everything below is bundled into a single monthly fee.
Industrial Router Hardware
Ruggedised 4G/5G routers specified for your application — dual-SIM failover, PoE, DIN-rail or cabinet mounting, and remote management as standard.
Managed SIM & Data Plan
We own and manage the SIM estate. Data plans are sized to your equipment's real usage, monitored continuously, and adjusted as your needs change.
Signal Survey & Antenna
Pre-installation signal testing across networks, with external directional antennas specified and installed where needed for a reliable connection.
Professional Installation
Our own engineers install the router, antenna, switch and cabling — and can install or integrate the cameras, sensors and systems it connects.
Connection Monitoring
We monitor the health of your connection, spot problems before you do, and resolve SIM, signal or hardware issues as part of the service.
Ongoing Support
One number to call for the connection and the equipment on it, backed by SEG's established maintenance operation and 25+ years of service.
Beyond Security: Signage, Substations & Infrastructure
Digital signage. Roadside and public-space digital signage needs a dependable data connection for content updates, scheduling and health monitoring — usually in locations where no fixed line exists. A compact industrial router inside the signage enclosure gives the display a managed connection with minimal data use, and our engineers handle the power and electrical side of the installation too.
Electricity substations and utility sites. Substation monitoring — temperature, intruder detection, door alarms, equipment telemetry — demands secure, always-on connectivity at sites that are by nature remote and unmanned. We deploy routers with private APN connections so substation data never touches the public internet, paired with 4G CCTV and intruder detection where physical security is part of the requirement.
Pumping stations, compounds and plant rooms. Anywhere unmanned equipment needs to report in — water treatment, telecoms cabinets, generator sets, environmental monitoring — the same architecture applies: industrial router, managed SIM, secure transmission, one monthly fee. If your application isn't listed here, it almost certainly still fits; tell us what you need to connect.

Remote Connectivity FAQs
Remote connectivity is a data connection for equipment on sites that have no fixed-line broadband. We install an industrial-grade 4G/5G router with a managed SIM and data plan, connected to a network switch that feeds your equipment — CCTV cameras, ANPR systems, sensors, door entry panels or plant. Data from that equipment is transmitted over the mobile network to wherever it needs to go, whether that's a cloud platform, a monitoring centre or your own systems.
No — and we're upfront about this. Mobile data on industrial routers is priced for machine data, not for streaming and general web browsing, so it isn't a cost-effective substitute for a leased line or FTTP where day-to-day internet use is the requirement. Our service is designed for equipment: cameras, ANPR, sensors, door entry and telemetry, where bandwidth-efficient systems make 4G/5G data extremely cost-effective.
Car parks running ANPR, farms and rural premises needing CCTV, construction sites needing camera and gate connectivity, electricity substations, remote signage installations, pumping stations, telecoms and utility compounds, and any premises where trenching in a fixed line would be slow or prohibitively expensive.
The router hardware, the SIM and data plan, antenna and installation, configuration for your equipment, connection monitoring, and ongoing support are all bundled into one monthly fee. We own and manage the SIM estate, so if a connection drops or a data plan needs adjusting, we handle it — you never deal with a mobile network directly.
Most installations are completed in a single visit once the site survey is done. Compared with a 60–90 day lead time for a new fixed line — plus trenching and wayleave complications on many remote sites — a 4G/5G installation is typically live within days of the order.
We carry out a signal survey before quoting, testing the available networks at your location. Poor indoor signal is usually solved with an external directional antenna mounted at height. Our routers support multiple networks, so we select the SIM and network with the strongest, most reliable coverage at your specific site.
