Paxton installer for Net2 and Paxton10 installation
SEG is a Paxton installer covering commercial and residential sites across the UK. We are authorised by Paxton, which gives us engineer-grade access to the Paxton PRO software and direct technical-support routes when something needs escalating. Most of the access control installs we do are Paxton, and the bulk of our access-control engineering time goes into Paxton sites.
Paxton has two access control platforms and the right one depends on how your business works. Net2 is server-based, lives on your network, no per-door subscription, and tends to suit a single building. Paxton10 is cloud-managed, browser and mobile-app administered, brings access and CCTV onto one platform, and works on a per-door monthly subscription that suits operators running multiple sites. The cards below help you decide which fits.
The actual install detail for each platform sits on the product pages: Net2 installation for the server-based product, Paxton10 installation for the cloud product. If you already know which one you want, head there. If not, keep reading.
Every install starts with a free site survey. Our office is staffed Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Call 0330 133 9801 to book one in.
How to choose between Net2 and Paxton10 installation
Pick Net2 when you have one building
Single-site operations with stable staff numbers, on-network admin, and no monthly-subscription budget tend to work out cheaper on Net2 over a 5 to 7 year window. The hardware is robust, the licensing is free, and the admin sits with whoever already runs your Windows estate.
Pick Paxton10 when you run an estate
Multi-building operators (school trusts, councils with several offices, multi-site retailers, healthcare networks) usually get more out of Paxton10's single cloud admin and integrated video. The per-door subscription typically nets out cheaper than paying for Net2 plus a separate VMS integration.
Pick Paxton10 when video matters from day one
If you want access events and camera footage stitched on the same timeline as a built-in feature rather than something bolted on by an integrator, Paxton10 is built for it. Net2 integrates with most major VMS platforms, but Paxton10 ships with the video baked in.
Pick Net2 when budget is capex, not opex
Net2's hardware is bought once, the software is licensed once, and there is no monthly per-door payment. For organisations where opex commitments need approval but capex sits in an existing budget, Net2 fits the procurement reality more cleanly.
Pick Paxton10 when the team is mobile
Operations managers and FM staff who need to administer doors from a phone or a remote browser get more out of Paxton10's cloud-native admin. Net2 has remote-access workarounds, but Paxton10 is designed mobile-first.
Either platform fits BS 7273-4, integrations, fire interface
Both platforms support the BS 7273-4 fire interface, integrate with the major intercoms and intruder systems, and run on the Paxton reader range. The decision is operational and economic, not a question of platform capability.
Why use an authorised Paxton installer
Anyone with cable and a screwdriver can put a Paxton reader on a door. The reason being an authorised Paxton installer matters is everything that happens after that.
Net2 server commissioning, Paxton10 cloud tenant setup, fire-interface configuration to BS 7273-4, warranty claims, software-side troubleshooting, and any escalation through Paxton's own technical support all sit easier with an authorised installer. We hold the engineer-grade Paxton PRO software access, we are kept current on platform changes, and Paxton themselves treat our support tickets as installer-grade rather than end-user-grade.
For smaller bits of work (replacing a reader head, adding a token, swapping a PSU) the authorisation matters less. For a full install, a system takeover from a previous contractor, or anything compliance-relevant, the difference shows up.
If you are not sure whether your existing system needs an authorised Paxton installer, ring us on 0330 133 9801 and we will give you an honest answer.
Paxton installer FAQs
Yes. We are authorised by Paxton, which gives us engineer-grade access to the Paxton PRO software, training on Net2 and Paxton10 commissioning, and direct technical-support routes to Paxton when something needs escalating.
The full Paxton range. Net2 (Net2 Plus and Net2 Nano controllers, readers and keypads, Net2 Pro software), Paxton10 (controllers, readers, integrated cameras, the cloud platform), and the smaller Paxton lines (PaxLock smart handles, Net2 Entry intercoms, the Paxton Key mobile-credential app).
Yes. We work on Salto, ACT, Inner Range, and most other major access control platforms. But the bulk of our access-control engineering work, and the area we have the deepest capability in, is Paxton.
No. Paxton continues to develop and support Net2 actively. Current Net2 Plus and Net2 Nano controllers, current firmware, current software release. Net2 is the recommended product for the use cases that suit it (single building, no monthly subscription, on-network admin). They run as a product family.
Yes, and it is more common than people assume. A school trust might run Paxton10 across most sites and Net2 at one heritage building where on-premise admin suits the IT setup. We design and quote both within one project when that fits.
Net2: hardware and software bought up front (capex), plus an SEG maintenance contract. No per-door subscription. Paxton10: hardware bought up front, plus the per-door monthly subscription, plus an SEG hardware-maintenance contract (the software is included in the Paxton subscription). For most single-building sites Net2 wins on 5-year cost; for multi-site operators wanting integrated video, Paxton10 wins. We model both during the survey.
Yes. Net2 and Paxton10 share the same reader and credential ecosystem, so the cards and fobs your staff carry can survive the move. Controllers and software are replaced. We do this work for customers whose business model has shifted (single-site to multi-site, capex-only to opex-friendly, access-only to integrated-video).
Same-week survey appointments are usually possible. Survey itself is free and there is no obligation to quote afterwards. Our office is staffed Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Ring us and we will book one in.
