What we repair
We repair cable across most of the systems found in a commercial building: network and data cabling, fibre, CCTV runs, access control cable, fire and intruder alarm cable, door entry and intercom, and the structured cabling and patch panels that everything terminates into.
Most commercial buildings end up with cabling from several different installs over the years, often with little or no documentation handed over from previous contractors. We're happy to work on cable installed by someone else. We'll find the fault, action the repair, and leave you with a record of what's on site.
We will always try to attend the same day where possible, subject to having an engineer available in your area. Our office is staffed Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Call 0330 133 9801 to book a visit.
How we approach a cable repair
We approach all repairs the same way whatever the cable type. We test it first to help us locate and diagnose the issue. Then we action the repair, always ensuring we retest the cable on completion so we can verify there are no leftover issues. If it looks like the cable is beyond saving then we will inform you so we can work out a plan of action and how best to move forward.
If the fault turns out to be something we can't reproduce on the visit, we'll let you know what we did, what we found, and what we'd recommend next.
Cable types we work on
Network and data cable
Cabling that carries data between switches, patch panels, and devices around the building. The work we do here is usually re-terminations, replacing damaged runs, and patch-panel tidying where the install has grown messy over the years.
Fibre optic
Fibre runs between buildings, between floors, or as the backbone for higher-speed network infrastructure. We test, locate the issue, and repair or re-splice as appropriate, and re-test to confirm the run is back in working order.
CCTV cable
Coax and IP camera cabling. Common issues are signal loss on long runs, terminations that have worked loose, and power issues where more cameras have been added to a switch over time than it was originally sized for.
Access control cable
The cabling that runs between controllers, readers, lock hardware, and request-to-exit buttons on each door. We test, locate the fault, and re-terminate or replace as the cable condition requires.
Alarm system cable
Cabling for fire and intruder alarm systems, including zone cabling and power runs to control panels and expanders. Where the system carries certification, we coordinate with your alarm contractor so anything that needs re-signing can be handled cleanly.
Door entry and intercom cable
Cabling for door entry panels and intercoms, from the street panel through to in-flat or in-office handsets. These cables often suffer at the street-side terminations where weather can get in.
Structured cabling and patch panels
Comms-room rework, patch-panel re-terminations, trunking and containment repairs. We label and tidy as we go so future repairs are easier for whoever attends next.
Cable repair FAQs
Yes. A lot of the cable we repair was installed by previous contractors, often years ago, often with no paperwork left behind. We test what's there, document what we find, and leave you with a record of the work.
Same-day attendance is best-effort. If we have an engineer available in your area we will always try to get to you the same day, but it depends on what is going on with the rota. Our office is staffed Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Yes. After the work is done we provide a written summary of what was found, what was repaired, and the re-test results where the cable type supports certification testing.
We'll let you know honestly. You pay for the engineer's time on site, you get a written summary of what we tested and what we found, and we'll talk through what we'd recommend doing next.
Yes. We're used to working around limited access, period features, and conservation requirements. If anything needs to be agreed with the building owner or a heritage officer before work starts, we'll raise it up front.
Where the fault calls for it, yes. Multi-system buildings sometimes have several symptoms with one underlying cause. We'll work across the affected systems on the same visit where that's the most efficient way to resolve things.
