Structured cabling installation: surveyed, designed, installed, certified
SEG Ltd installs structured cabling for commercial sites across England, offices, retail premises, warehouses, schools, hotels, and industrial buildings. We design and install to TIA/ISO standards using Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, or fibre optic depending on your performance requirement and budget. Every installation includes proper containment, neat patch-panel work, labelled outlets at both ends, and a certified Fluke test pack handed over with the site.
Whether it's a five-outlet retail unit, a 200-point office fit-out, or a multi-floor refurbishment with a new comms room, the discipline is the same. We start with a survey to confirm point counts, locations, and containment routes, then produce a clear written quote. Installation is planned around your operations, where required, and the system is fully certified before sign-off so you have warranty evidence in writing.
Cabling is one of those parts of a building that's invisible when right and very expensive when wrong. We don't cut corners on cable quality (we use Excel, Connectix, Brand-Rex, and Panduit as standard), we don't take shortcuts on containment, and we never hand over an uncertified installation. The Fluke test pack is your proof that the system meets the category you paid for.
What a structured cabling installation includes
Survey & quote
On-site visit to confirm outlet positions, cable routes, containment needs, and comms room space. Free written quote with itemised pricing for cable, components, labour, and certification.
Cable supply
Excel, Connectix, Brand-Rex, or Panduit cable to the specified category. We don't use unbranded or "compatible" cable, the cost saving is tiny and the certification headaches aren't worth it.
Containment & routing
Cable basket, trunking, conduit, or floor boxes as required. Proper bend radius observed, separation from power maintained, fire-stopping at any compartment penetrations.
Outlet & patch-panel termination
Punched-down to keystones at both ends, with each pair maintained to the limit allowed by spec. Modules clipped into faceplates with the correct orientation and labels.
Comms room work
Cabinet installation, vertical and horizontal cable management, patch-panel mounting, PDU and shelving as required. Patch leads supplied to the matching category with strain-relief boots.
Fluke certification
Every link Fluke-tested to TIA category spec. PDF report per outlet showing all parameters. Test pack handed over with the installation, your warranty evidence and IT documentation.
Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, which one?
Cat5e
Still perfectly adequate for 1Gb to the desk. Cheapest cable and components. Sensible choice for small offices, retail, or temporary fit-outs. If the site won't need 10Gb in the next ten years, Cat5e is fair.
Cat6
Supports 1Gb over the full 100m channel and 10Gb over short distances (up to ~55m). Modest cost premium over Cat5e. The pragmatic middle-ground for most new commercial installations.
Cat6a
Full 10Gb to the desk over 100m, with better future-proofing for Wi-Fi access points (Wi-Fi 7 uplinks benefit from 10Gb). Right answer for new high-performance offices, design studios, trading floors, and dense AP environments.
Structured cabling FAQs
A typical 50-outlet office fit-out is two to three days for two engineers, including testing and certification. Smaller jobs (under 20 outlets) are usually a single day. Larger projects scale linearly. We confirm timescales in writing before commitment.
Yes, typically 15 to 25 years on the cabling system itself when installed with manufacturer-approved components (Excel, Connectix). Your Fluke certification report is the evidence. Workmanship is covered for 12 months as standard.
Yes, many of our installations are done evenings, weekends, or outside trading hours to avoid disrupting occupied offices, retail trading, or industrial production. rates apply and are confirmed in the quote.
Yes. We supply and install wall-mounted and floor-standing cabinets from APC, Excel, and Toten, with cable management, PDUs, fans, and shelving. All your cabling is patched in at install time so the cabinet is properly populated when we hand over.
