Ajax alarm repair: fast diagnosis, genuine parts, no guesswork
When an Ajax alarm starts misbehaving — sensors offline, false alarms, hub disconnected, app not connecting, MotionCam not sending photos — SEG Ltd provides fast diagnosis and repair across England. As an authorised Ajax installer we have full access to the Ajax PRO engineer app, which lets us remotely interrogate the hub, check signal strength per device, review fault logs, and often fix issues without a callout. For physical faults we attend with genuine Ajax replacement parts.
Most Ajax issues fall into one of a few categories: signal-strength problems (sensors too far from hub or shielded by metal), battery depletion (some sensors hit low-battery at the 4–5 year mark), firmware mismatches after a hub update, signal-path failures (Ethernet or cellular path broken at the router), and occasionally a faulty MotionCam where the photo upload fails consistently. We diagnose remotely first via Ajax PRO; if a visit is needed, we arrive with the right parts the first time.
If your existing alarm engineer has gone quiet or you've inherited an Ajax system you don't have admin access to, we can also take over the system: gain admin access via the existing installer transfer process (or via a fresh installation if that's not possible), audit every device, and bring the system back into a fully-supported state with documentation.
Common Ajax faults we repair
Sensor offline / "Lost connection with hub"
Usually signal strength or battery. We check the device's current signal-strength reading, move the hub or sensor if needed, or swap the device's batteries. Sometimes a re-pair is enough.
False alarms
Most commonly pet/draught sensitivity on PIRs, glass-break false triggers, or door contact misalignment. We re-tune sensitivity, reposition where needed, and verify with controlled walk-tests.
Hub offline
Ethernet path, cellular path, or hub fault. We check each signalling path in turn and replace the SIM, router cable, or hub itself as needed. Cellular SIM expiry is a surprisingly common cause.
App not connecting
Often a user/permission issue rather than a hardware fault. We audit user permissions, re-invite the user if needed, and confirm app version compatibility with hub firmware.
MotionCam photos failing
Usually a hub bandwidth or upload-path issue. We verify the cellular signal strength, switch the cellular provider if needed, or move the MotionCam to a better radio position relative to the hub.
Battery replacements
Ajax sensors give plenty of low-battery warning. We replace with genuine Ajax-supplied batteries (not generic CR123A) — some users have reported issues with generic cells in MotionCam devices.
How an Ajax repair call works
1. Remote diagnostic first
If you grant Ajax PRO access to your hub, we can often diagnose remotely in minutes — checking signal strengths, fault logs, battery levels, and firmware status without a visit. Many issues are fixable remotely.
2. Site visit if needed
If the fault needs physical attendance, we book a visit with the right parts already in the van. Most faults are resolved in a single visit.
3. Walk-test & sign-off
After any repair, we walk-test every affected device and confirm everything is reporting properly to the hub and app. Written summary of what was done, sent within two working days.
Ajax repair FAQs
Yes. Ajax supports a formal installer-transfer process where the previous installer can release the system to us. If they're unreachable, we can usually reset and re-pair the system, retaining all your sensors. Either way you end up fully supported.
Most non-emergency Ajax faults are visited within one to two working days. For an alarm-down situation on a high-risk site we'll prioritise same-day or next-day if engineer location allows. Tell us the urgency when you call.
Yes — we keep stock of the most common devices (MotionProtect, MotionCam, DoorProtect, KeyPad TouchScreen, Hub 2 and Hub 2 Plus) plus replacement batteries. Less common items can be ordered in a day or two from Ajax directly.
Yes. Hub upgrades (e.g., Hub 2 to Hub 2 Plus for more devices or LTE signalling), MotionProtect to MotionCam upgrades for photo verification, and addition of new zones or device types — we can quote upgrades alongside any repair work.
