Structured Cabling

Data cable installation, repair, fault finding, and removal for commercial and industrial premises. Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fibre optic — fully tested and certified.

Complete Data Cabling Services

Security & Electrical Group Ltd provides a full range of structured cabling services for businesses across England — from new installations and office fit-outs to cable repairs, fault finding, and decommissioning removals. We work with Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a copper data cabling and single-mode and multi-mode fibre optic, delivering clean, certified infrastructure that supports your data, voice, CCTV, and security networks.

Whether you need a complete cabling infrastructure for a new building, additional data points in an existing office, a fibre optic backbone between floors or buildings, or an engineer to diagnose why your network points aren't working — our team handles the full lifecycle. We also remove and decommission redundant cabling when you're refurbishing, relocating, or clearing a site.

Every cable we install is Fluke tested and certified, with detailed test results and cable schedules provided at handover. Our installations use proper containment throughout — cable tray, basket, trunking, and conduit — with clear labelling at both ends for easy identification and future maintenance.

Copper Data Cabling & Fibre Optic

We install and repair both copper and fibre optic cabling — selecting the right cable type for each application based on distance, bandwidth, and environment.

Cat5e / Cat6 / Cat6a Copper Cabling — The standard for office and commercial data networks. We install, terminate, test, and certify copper data cabling for network points, CCTV, access control, VoIP phones, and wireless access points.
  • Cat5e — up to 1Gbps, suitable for most office environments
  • Cat6 — up to 10Gbps over short distances, improved crosstalk rejection
  • Cat6a — 10Gbps over 100m, shielded for high-interference environments
  • Terminated to patch panels with Fluke test certification
  • Best for: office data points, CCTV, access control, Wi-Fi APs, VoIP

Fibre Optic Cabling — For high-bandwidth connections over longer distances. We install, splice, terminate, test, and repair single-mode and multi-mode fibre optic cables for building backbones, inter-building links, and high-speed network connections.
  • Single-mode fibre — long-distance, high-bandwidth backbone links
  • Multi-mode fibre — shorter runs within buildings, data centres
  • Fusion splicing and mechanical splicing
  • OTDR testing and full certification
  • Best for: inter-floor backbones, building-to-building links, data centres

Our Structured Cabling Services

Installation, repair, fault finding, testing, and removal — a complete lifecycle service for your data cabling infrastructure.

New Cable Installation

Full design and installation of structured cabling for new offices, refurbishments, and fit-outs. Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fibre — from single data points to multi-floor building infrastructure.

Cable Repair & Patching

Repair of damaged data cables, failed terminations, and faulty patch panels. We trace the fault, repair or replace the affected section, and retest to confirm the link is working to specification.

Fault Finding & Diagnostics

Systematic diagnosis of network cabling faults using Fluke testers and cable analysers. We identify breaks, shorts, crossed pairs, interference, and performance degradation across copper and fibre links.

Fibre Optic Splicing & Testing

Fusion and mechanical splicing for fibre optic cables, with OTDR testing to verify splice quality and end-to-end link performance. New fibre installations and repair of damaged fibre runs.

Cable Removal & Decommissioning

Safe removal of redundant data cabling, patch panels, and containment during refurbishments, relocations, or site clearances. Clean removal with disposal or recycling of old cable.

Testing & Certification

Every cable we install is Fluke tested and certified to the relevant standard. Full test results and cable schedules are provided — essential for warranty validation and compliance documentation.

Supporting Infrastructure

Beyond the cables themselves, we build and maintain the infrastructure that supports your network.

Comms Room & Cabinet Builds

Server room and comms cabinet design, installation, and fit-out. Rack mounting, patch panel termination, cable management, power distribution, and labelling for clean, accessible infrastructure.

Cable Containment

Cable tray, basket, trunking, and conduit installation providing proper containment routes throughout your building. Clean, compliant pathways that protect cables and support future expansion.

Wireless Access Point Cabling

Data cable installation to ceiling-mounted wireless access point locations. We run Cat6 or Cat6a to each AP position with PoE-compatible terminations for clean, powered Wi-Fi infrastructure.

CCTV & Security Cabling

Network cabling for IP CCTV cameras, access control systems, and security infrastructure. PoE-capable runs to camera and reader positions with appropriate containment and segregation from data cables.

Cable Tidy & Relabelling

Reorganisation of messy comms cabinets and patch panels. New patch leads, proper cable management, clear labelling, and documentation of the tidied infrastructure for ongoing maintenance.

Point-to-Point Links

Fibre optic and copper links between buildings, floors, or separate areas. Underground duct installation for external fibre runs between buildings on the same site.

Structured Cabling FAQs

Cat5e supports speeds up to 1Gbps and is sufficient for most office environments. Cat6 supports up to 10Gbps over shorter distances with better crosstalk rejection. Cat6a supports 10Gbps over the full 100m run length and includes shielding for high-interference environments like factories and data centres. We recommend the right category based on your current and future bandwidth needs.

Yes. We install, terminate, splice, test, and repair both single-mode and multi-mode fibre optic cables. Fusion splicing provides the lowest-loss permanent joints, and every fibre link is OTDR tested to verify splice quality and end-to-end performance. We handle everything from single inter-floor backbones to multi-fibre building-to-building links.

Yes. We use Fluke cable analysers and network testers to systematically diagnose cabling faults — identifying breaks, shorts, crossed pairs, excessive length, interference, and performance degradation. For fibre optic, we use OTDR testing to locate faults along the fibre run. Once identified, we repair or replace the faulty section and retest to confirm the link meets specification.

Yes. We remove redundant data cabling, patch panels, containment, and associated infrastructure during refurbishments, relocations, and site clearances. Old cable is removed cleanly without damaging the building fabric, and disposed of or recycled responsibly. We can also remove and relocate existing cabling to new positions within the same building.

Yes. Every copper cable we install is Fluke tested to the relevant standard (TIA or ISO) with pass/fail certification for each link. Every fibre link is OTDR tested. Full test results are provided at handover alongside cable schedules and as-built documentation. This certification is essential for warranty validation, compliance, and future troubleshooting.
