Ajax installation: wireless intruder protection done properly
SEG Ltd is an authorised Ajax installer covering commercial and residential properties across England. Ajax is the modern wireless intruder alarm platform of choice, full wireless system without the compromises of older wireless kit, military-grade encrypted radio, photo verification on alarm, and proper app-based control for both end users and engineers. We design, install, and commission the full Ajax range from single-room standalone systems to multi-zone commercial sites with hundreds of devices.
A typical Ajax installation starts with a site survey: we identify zones, count entry points, plan PIR and MotionCam coverage, and choose between Hub 2, Hub 2 Plus, or Hub Hybrid depending on whether you need a fully-wireless or mixed wired/wireless system. We supply and install Ajax-genuine hardware (no third-party rebrands or unverified resellers), pair every device, configure groups and modes, and walk-test the entire system before sign-off. You're handed over with the end-user app installed and an admin walkthrough.
All our Ajax installations are configured to take advantage of the platform's strengths: photo verification on alarm (sent straight to your phone within seconds), arming via app or KeyPad, scenarios that integrate with other Ajax devices like StreetSiren or HomeSiren, and optional integration with monitoring stations if you require professional ARC response. We also provide ongoing maintenance contracts for Ajax systems, recommended for commercial sites where the alarm is part of your insurance or compliance posture.
What's included in an Ajax installation
Site survey & design
On-site walk to identify entry points, internal coverage requirements, hub location, and signal-path planning. Free written quote covering hub, devices, installation, and any monitoring options.
Hub installation
Hub 2, Hub 2 Plus, or Hub Hybrid mounted in a discreet but accessible location, typically utility cupboard, comms cabinet, or loft. Wired to mains with battery backup, plus Ethernet and 2G/3G/4G signalling paths.
Device pairing & placement
PIRs (MotionProtect, MotionCam), door/window contacts (DoorProtect), glass-break (GlassProtect), keypads (KeyPad TouchScreen), and panic buttons (Button), placed for best coverage and paired into appropriate groups.
Photo verification
MotionCam devices configured to capture and send a photo sequence on activation, straight to your phone via the Ajax app. End to false-alarm anxiety, and useful evidence if there is a real incident.
App setup & user training
End-user Ajax app installed on your devices, users created with appropriate permissions, groups configured (e.g., reception zone vs warehouse zone), and a walkthrough of arming, viewing, and managing alerts.
Walk-test & commissioning
Every device triggered and verified at the hub. Signal strength checked. Battery levels confirmed. Final commissioning document signed off and a copy left on site.
How an Ajax installation works
1. Survey
Free on-site survey to plan zones, devices, and hub location. We discuss any monitoring or integration requirements (with CCTV, access control, or an ARC). Written quote within a few working days.
2. Installation
Most domestic and small commercial installations are completed in a single day. Larger commercial sites with many devices and multiple groups can take two days. We work tidily and around your operating hours.
3. Handover
System walk-tested, app installed on your phones, users created, a full demo of arming/disarming/photo verification. We leave a printed system schedule and stay reachable by phone for any setup questions in the first few weeks.
Ajax installation FAQs
Yes, every sensor, keypad, and siren is battery-powered with the manufacturer claiming 5–7 years of battery life on most devices. Only the hub needs mains and Ethernet (with cellular backup). For installations that need to integrate wired devices, Hub Hybrid supports both wired and wireless on the same panel.
MotionCam PIRs include a small camera. When the sensor triggers, it captures a short photo sequence and sends it via the hub straight to your Ajax app, within seconds. You instantly see whether it's a real intruder or a curtain blowing. Cuts false-alarm response stress massively.
Yes. Ajax supports both Contact ID and SIA over IP and cellular for connection to professional Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs). We can quote and set up monitoring with our preferred ARC partner, or integrate with one you're already using.
Yes. Ajax integrates directly with Hikvision, Dahua, and Axis CCTV systems via the Ajax app, letting you view cameras alongside your alarm interface. For more advanced integration, Ajax also offers an open API and works with Milestone XProtect via partner plugins.
